Workshop overview

Leaders are tasked with making many decisions, big and small – hiring decisions, purchasing decisions, budget decisions, work planning decisions, etc. And they don’t just have the authority to make those decisions – they’re also on the hook for the success or failure of all their decisions.

However, every day, we read headlines about leaders whose decisions were not the “best possible” decision. Discussions about these failed business decisions often talk about “wrong bets,” as if leadership were a game of chance. But good decisions come about not through good intuition or luck but a good process.

This workshop helps leaders explore how to make great decisions. The first part of the workshop engages participants in exploring the three leading causes of bad decision-making.

In the second part, the workshop then introduces participants to 4 strategies that they can implement to avoid these pitfalls and improve the overall quality of decision-making.

Learning objectives

What participants will learn

By attending this workshop, participants will learn:

  • How they, as leaders, are susceptible to the halo-effect and how to mitigate it

  • To be aware of the four most common and potentially most disastrous biases that influence our thinking and decision-making and how to implement decision-making strategies to counteract them proactively

  • How groupthink can cause your team decisions NOT to be the result of your team’s combined knowledge, and how to counteract this

  • Taken together, by the end of this workshop, participants will have the skills to avoid the most common causes of bad decision-making and will have a detailed and actionable plan of how to improve the quality of their own and their team’s decision-making

Our leadership-habit building approach

The holy grail of leadership development is lasting behavior change. Unfortunately, most traditional leadership workshops fail to move beyond knowledge transfer. And just telling participants what they should do only leads to momentary change, if that.

That’s why we incorporate our specially designed contextualization exercises in all our workshops. They are part of our proprietary leadership habit-building methodology. These exercises help participants grasp how what they are learning is relevant and valuable to them and how to apply it to improve their leadership.

In addition, your facilitator kit also includes guidance and templates to help you implement a 3-month follow-up process to support participants in truly turning what they learn during this workshop into new leadership habits.

What's in the facilitator kit?

The facilitator guide includes the following:

  • Facilitator guide for both live online and face-to-face delivery

  • Flash drive with slide deck

  • Participant workbook (for reference)
